The production process of high-temperature resistant rubber sheets

high-temperature resistant rubber sheets

The first step in making high-temperature resistant rubber sheets is to carefully select and prepare the raw materials. The quality of the raw materials directly determines the upper limit of the performance of the final product, and the selection of the core raw material, raw rubber, is particularly crucial. Butyl rubber, ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) rubber, or chlorinated butyl rubber with halogen elements in the side chains are all common choices. Among them, the use of EPDM rubber in combination with other rubbers to produce heat-resistant rubber sheets can effectively reduce raw material costs while maintaining performance and economy. In addition to raw rubber, various compounding agents are also indispensable. Sulfur can promote the vulcanization reaction of rubber, endowing the rubber sheet with greater strength and toughness; reinforcing agents can significantly enhance the tensile strength of the rubber sheet, making it less prone to deformation and fracture under complex working conditions; and antioxidants can slow down the aging rate of the rubber sheet during long-term use, extending its service life. These raw materials need to be strictly screened and precisely proportioned according to the specific requirements of the product, such as adjusting the amount of sulfur as needed to precisely control the hardness and elasticity of the rubber sheet, laying a solid foundation for subsequent processing.

After the raw materials are prepared, the mixing process begins, which is a crucial step to fully integrate all the raw materials.
Mixing requires the use of professional equipment such as internal mixers. The raw rubber and compounding agents are vigorously stirred and extruded, similar to thoroughly mixing ingredients during cooking, ensuring that each raw material is evenly dispersed to maintain a consistent microstructure in the rubber sheet. If the mixing is insufficient, the rubber sheet is prone to local performance differences. For example, in rubber sheets used for high-load mechanical seals, uneven mixing can lead to insufficient local strength, unable to withstand high pressure, thereby affecting the normal operation of the equipment. Specifically for the production of high-temperature resistant rubber sheets, the mixing process goes through multiple stages. First, a primary mixing is conducted to initially blend the raw materials, followed by a re-mixing and sheeting process to further enhance the mixing effect. Then, the rubber compound is left to rest for a period of time to prepare for subsequent processes.

After the mixing is completed, the addition of sulfur and secondary re-mixing are indispensable steps. During the sulfur addition and mixing, the timing and proportion of sulfur addition must be precisely controlled to fully utilize the role of sulfur and promote the cross-linking reaction between rubber molecules. Then, a secondary re-mixing and sheeting process is carried out to further optimize the uniformity and plasticity of the rubber compound, making its performance more stable. After these two steps, the rubber compound needs to rest again to allow the internal structure to fully adjust and accumulate the state for the subsequent forming process.

Next comes the pre-forming and vulcanization forming, which are the key stages for shaping the rubber sheet and endowing it with core performance. During pre-forming, the rubber compound that has undergone multiple mixing and resting processes is processed into a shape that meets the requirements of the vulcanization mold, preparing for vulcanization forming. Then, the vulcanization forming process begins. The pre-formed rubber compound is placed in a pre-designed mold and, under specific temperature and pressure conditions, the rubber compound fully fills every corner of the mold, forming the required shape and size. The vulcanization process is a turning point for the performance of the rubber sheet, as it chemically forms a cross-linked structure between rubber molecules, significantly enhancing the strength, wear resistance, and aging resistance of the rubber sheet. For high-temperature resistant rubber sheets, the control of vulcanization temperature and time is more stringent, requiring higher vulcanization temperatures and more precise time control to ensure that the rubber sheet maintains good performance in high-temperature environments. After vulcanization forming, the rubber compound needs to rest again to allow the cross-linked structure to further stabilize.

Finally, the cutting and post-treatment stage begins. According to actual usage requirements, the large rubber sheets after vulcanization are cut into appropriate sizes using professional cutting equipment, ensuring smooth and flat cutting edges without burrs. At the same time, the rubber sheets are cleaned and strictly inspected to ensure that each sheet meets quality standards and is ultimately put into practical use in the best condition, providing reliable protection for high-temperature working conditions in various fields.

From the meticulous selection of raw materials to the precise control of each process, the production process of high-temperature resistant rubber sheets is closely linked. Every step embodies the commitment to quality, and it is precisely for this reason that this high-performance material can continue to shine in many critical fields.
